Lots of positive additions/changes to this season! First off, with Mrs. Weir having her baby in January, donations looked a little different! While she was unable to collect and return cans, the needs of dues coverage, tennis shoes, a water bottle, and a bag for each girl was met through some fabulous donators!
Shoutout to: Phillina Rios, Lexee Grace, Kelly Johnson, Arianna Aber-Towns, Emily Judstra, Kendra McNees, Jessica Pankratz, Anne Pawlowski Kennedy, Cassie Jastrzembski, Sarah Molter-Kovar, David Hendley, Andra Derringer Schooley, and Susan Merchant Karnik for donating our needs!
Shoutout to our school as well for covering our running buddy dues and end of the year pizza party costs!
Last year, the girls noted that they had made so much running progress, that this year, in addition to working on start quality social-emotional skills, they would want to run more! We upped our practice running times from 15 to 20 minutes per practice. The girls pushed themselves weekly to get a better lap time than the previous practice!
This years lessons focused on the kind of friend we are to ourselves and one another. We focused on our star power and keeping our physical, mental, and emotional health in tact. This also includes surrounding ourselves with the right situations and people. To do so, we need to be a good friend to others as well. We discussed the 5 love languages to better understand our friends needs from us and how they need us to treat them in order to feel our support. Often the way we show love to others differs from how we ask them to show us love. Some need hugs, words of affirmation, quality time, or someone to simply help them out/take care of them. Knowing how we all differ helps us better understand and support one another on the team.
We also took time this season to ask ourselves where we see ourselves going with our running careers. Is short or long distance running our thing? What interests us? What do we feel we have better success at?
Tradition was created last year when our girls spent the last practice before the 5k with a little self care and motivation. Mrs. Weir gave all the girls manicures!
They did this while watching yet another inspirational running movie!
Last year we watched "Sisters On Track", an inspirational true story about three New York sisters experiencing homelessness while striving to reach their track goals. This year we switched it up and watched another inspirational true story called "McFarland USA" about cross country athletes coming to see their true potential despite their busy lives in their economically challenged small town.
